Tony Parker...well not that Tony Parker

UCLA basketball program making a coming back, and Tony Parker is a great start.

Kenny Anderson!!!

College basketball was a point guard game back in the glory days, when players stayed more than just one year; some might argue that it's still a point guard game.  One thing is for sure Georgia Tech’s Kenny Anderson was GREAT! Well, I came across his 50 point outburst against Loyola Mayrmount. Those days I truly miss there were soooo many great college players…

Oh and yes, I added the “Hurley shuffle” for all my younger readers. Enjoy!

The People's Elbow NBA style...

Brutal! Extreme! Unwarranted! and distasteful. Metta World Peace (formerly Ron Artest) gave Oklahoma City Thunder’s James Harden an Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) elbow to the head after a dunk and began to celebrate. Take a look at the video for yourself and determine if the celebration, was a really a celebration.

So after watching the video one can only wonder how many games World Peace will be suspended for an elbow like that. My guess would be at least 5 games, which will end his regular season and a game or two in the Lakers first round of the playoffs.

Here is what World Peace had to say when asked about the elbow...

“On that play, I just dunked on Durant and Ibaka, and I got really emotional, really excited. And it was unfortunate that James had to get hit with unintentional elbow.  I hope he’s OK. The Thunder, they’re playing for a championship this year. So I really hope he’s OK, and I apologize to the Thunder and to James Harden. Such a great game, and it was unfortunate so much emotion was going on at that time”

World Peace history doesn’t favor him in a situation like this when it comes to physical interaction I know you recall the “Brawl in the Palace”.  I relate this elbow to the “The Punch” that change Rudy Tomjanovich face by Kermit Washington. After a slow start to the season with the lock-out, then Jeremy Lin was the story, and now it will be World Peace’s elbow. I really hope that the Playoffs give us a new story line!

Wisconsin Coach Bo Ryan vs Mike and Mike...

Wisconsin Men’s Head coach Bo Ryan explains why he restricted Jarrod Uthoff from transferring to 26 schools.  However, after the backlash Bo Ryan has ease up on where Jarrod Uthoff can transfer.  The 6-foot-8 forward can transfer anywhere outside of the Big Ten.

Bucks Larry Sanders "try" to take on all the Pacers

As a Milwaukee Bucks fan I just want this season to end. No playoffs. Hate to see them go out like this.

Reaching the Summit…

After 1,098 victories, 18 Final Fours, 8 national titles and 16 SEC tournament titles Pat Summitt steps down as head coach of the Tennessee Lady Vols women’s basketball coach. What does this mean to Tennessee women’s college basketball program? Who will fill Coach Summitt’s shoes; will this be the end of a great program? Only time will tell.  After 38 years Pat Summitt was the brand for Tennessee women basketball. As the old saying goes you never know what a great thing you have until it’s gone. Sadly, Tennessee basketball program, and its university, will experience this first hand.

Even with battling ‘early-onset Alzheimer, Summitt continued to coach, and the Lady Vols completed another great season and a berth in the NCAA Elite Eight.  No wonder why she has been name National coach of the year seven times! Its Summitt’s willpower and passion for coaching that sets her aside from others.

In a statement to the university Summitt stated “I’ve loved being the head coach at Tennessee for 38 years, but I recognize that the time has come to move into the future and to step into a new role” during a recent interview.  As a result it will be hard not to think Tennessee’s women’s basketball without thinking about Patt Summitt. Even though she won’t be on the sideline leading the Lady Vols, her impact as a leader will continue to be a force at Tennessee and women’s sports across the world of college athletics. She’s a true pioneer for women’s college sports and will be truly missed by Lady Vols fans and more.

Lebron James 17 straight points…

He did it again! Will he win another MVP award? Well, LeBron James closed out Monday's game against the New Jersey Nets with 17 straight points.  When LeBron goes into "pseudo Jordan" mood, it's fair to say no one can slow him down; let along stop him.  His 17 points out score the entire Nets team over the last five minutes. He finished the game with 37 points.
The Nets fans showed their love for his great performace by chanting "MVP, MVP".  In my opinio, the MVP race is a two man battle between Kevin Durant and LeBron James. Yes, I understand Kobe Bryant will win another scoring title, however James is clearly the front runner.
Yes, I know the question you are asking why not this remarkable performance on a consistent basis.  All Heat fans are hoping for James tenacious scoring outburst when it matter most...in the playoffs! Only In Hockey...

Only in hockey can a man can slam another man's head into a glass and ONLY get fined $2,500. I can confess not knowing that much about hockey, but one thing is for sure a play like that should be more than $2,500…thank GOD Detroit forward Henrik Zetterberg is fine. Hockey fans please educate me on why in the world they are allowed to fight so much...

Magic-Bird together once again…on Broadway!

Someone FINALLY wrote a play to portray the revivals of Magic-Bird. Like in the 80’s all-over again, I can remember sitting in front of my television on a Sunday afternoon with my mother in the kitchen cooking up Sunday dinner, and my father telling me turn to NBC the NBA Finals are on. There will never be two NBA players that will be joined together like Magic-Bird. They both had such a high - streak for playing the game and would not stop until the clock read zero! As a youngster I thought it was really interesting how there were 10 players on the court but Magic - Bird were the two relevant ones battling for the win.

If you know anything about basketball those two (Magic-Bird) elevated professional basketball to newer heights and the NBA is blessed to have them. As a sport fan I’m blessed I was able to watch their every battle starting in the 1979 NCAA championship game.

Their careers will be played out on stage at the Longacre Theater in New York. Yes! Broadway. Together they have eight NBA titles, six MVP awards, and I can’t forget their three classic NBA Finals matchups. Talk about 'ole school they weren't too cool for those ‘short shorts’ they were more focused on winning and playing the game they enjoyed.

The play will go-down memory lane, there will be a key person (Georgia Bird, Bird's mother) in the play that brought the two of them together to strength their friendship. Check out the preview below. Even off the court Magic & Bird will make history on Broadway.  During Magic vs. Bird era whose side were you on, Lakers-Celtics, why?

A Thunder of a Grip

Oklahoma City Thunder made their only appears at the Bradley Center last night. The game wasn’t a contest as the Thunder jumped out to a 17-point lead and won by 20-points. Watch this video and see how Serge Ibaka told Mike Dunleavy, without saying a word, he shouldn’t very try him with one death grip.

Kentucky's One Shining Moment

The University of Kentucky, with their win over Kansas, became one of the youngest teams to hoist the trophy this past Monday night.  And by doing so gave Coach John Calipari his first National Title.

Calipari’s name can be mention with the likes of other college coaches who have won a National Title. However, he comes without controversy his past two schools (UMass & Memphis) both made it to the Final Four but were strip away for violations.  Lately, his recruiting style has become the center of much attention.  Calilpari’s sort of players are often label “one-and-done” after their freshman year they jump to the NBA.

History has shown over the past three years Kentucky, since Calipari has been there, has had the No. 1 recruiting class which brought players like Demarcus Cousins, John Wall, and now Davis.  By landing talent as those players, and more, people are calling foul play.  Winning the title only shines a brighter light on Kentucky’s basketball program; top recruits will only keep coming.

This National title might represent more to Calipari as he beat the one person who prevented him from winning the title his last appearance.  Back in 2008 it was Bill Self’s Kansas Jayhawks who defeated a Memphis team lead by NBA star, and last year MVP, Derrick Rose.

Just think about what Calipari did this year with all that talent.  I compare it to what Phil Jackson did with the Los Angeles Lakers during their title runs with Kobe and Shaq.  Managing egos is a very difficult thing to accomplish in this day and age.  When young players have the “it’s all about me” mentally it’s surprising that Calipari reached the winning level he has thus far.

So while Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Terrence Jones, Doron Lamb, and Davis should jump to the NBA Calipari has had his one shining moment this past Monday and I’m sure it wouldn’t be the last with another crop of talent freshman joining Big Blue National next year.
