Packers Here Today, Gone Tomorrow

It can’t be over just like that……can it?! The road seemed so promising to Super Bowl XLVII, in New Orleans, for this years’ Green Bay Packers. They defeated the Minnesota Vikings at home then made a trip out west to San Francisco to take down the 49ers however Colin Kaepernick a second year quarterback whom I may add was making his first appearance in the National Football League postseason gave them Packers a run for their money.  Then they were to seek revenge against the Seattle Seahawks or prevent the Atlanta Falcons home playoff win once again but the Packers navigation GPS veered off its path.

It’s been 14yrs since the Packers made an appearance at Candlestick Park during the playoffs they had the same painful ending. The Packers walked off bewildered, confused, and dejected.  Only that time it was at the hands of Steve Young’s pass to Terrell Owens for the game-winning touchdown as time expired.  After that heartbreaking lost the dynasty of Mike Holmgren, Reggie White, and Brett Favre was no more.  Holmgren bolted for Seattle. White retired. Favre went on to set the all-time record for most interceptions.

With last year and Saturday’s night defensives struggles I wouldn’t be shocked if whispers of defensive coordinator Dom Capers be standing in the unemployment line.  It’s frustrating as a fan to think that the Packers were Super Bowl Champions two years ago.  Now, they’re allowing, new age quarterbacks like 49ers’ Kaepernick to rush for a single game record which is 16 carries for 181 yards. Kaepernick made us forget about his early interception which was taken back for a touchdown by Packers’ Sam Shields with his marvelous performance.

Packer fans are still flabbergasted with Saturday night outcome; Colin Kaepernick and the 49ers ran ALL over the Packers en route to a lopsided victory 45-31. I did not think the Packers stood a chance for a comeback during the second half since the 49ers were scoring on every drive.  The Packers defense never seemed to make a key stop and then have the offense capitalize on it.

On a new road -

To the unexpected early offseason, the Packers have a few areas of concern with Driver, Woodson, Hawk, Finley, and Jennings being somewhere else next season. They are major contributors and all have had an impact on the success of the Packers over the years.  General Manager, Ted Thompson must work intensely to address those defensiveness issues to prevent a reoccurrence of Saturday night disappointment.  Therefore, the Packers must pack up their belongings, head home, and regroup.  Realizing another great season has come to a close much earlier than we imagined.

The consolation prize of this loss to the 49ers is that Coach Mike McCarthy and staff will coach the NFC in the, tired and un-energized, Pro Bowl for the second straight year.

The future of the Milwaukee Bucks is...

...Unfortunately, not Scott Skiles

This was the year to expect great things from the Milwaukee Bucks.  Having a full season with the lighting quick back-court of (Brandon) Jennings and (Monta) Ellis, and a better cast of big men guiding the paint I was looking forward to Scott Skiles coaching them.  Well with coach Skiles being fired it will take the players to band together more than ever before.  Skiles after 5-years only managed a record of 162-182 which wasn't nearly close enough for this franchise.  It’s said that change is good.  Hopefully, this is the change the Bucks need to jump-start their playoff run and to a brighter tomorrow.

Since there hasn't been a major snow storm this year in Milwaukee, as of yet, could this be the storm Bucks fans are afraid of?  Where Jennings doesn't sign an extension and leaves to become a free agent, Monta Ellis also moves on since he has a player option and worst of all current owner Herb Kohl sells the team and Milwaukee is no longer home of the Bucks’.

I'm optimistic on the brighter future the Bucks’ can have.  Here is what I believe should happen:

First and foremost sign Brandon Jennings to a long-term contract.  By doing so it secures a young star for the future, and the fans can identify him as their franchise player. He seems very loyal to this city and is a perfect center piece to build a franchise around.  Add a solid wing-player and a consistent post-player then brighter days’ are ahead.  Milwaukee is not the first, second, nor third option for most NBA players to come and play here.  However in Jennings I think we have a guy who really doesn’t mind making it cool here.

A new arena is a MUST! What’s the phrase “if you build it they will come” well build away.  Look at what a new stadium did for the development and success of the Milwaukee Brewers on and off the field.  A new arena will create and bring excitement to the city.  Having a state of the art arena would allow a stronger sale for bring more entertainment acts to Milwaukee which ultimately creates more revenue for the city.  Not to mention a greater possibility of hosting the NBA All-Star game.

A new Owner, maybe billionaire Michael Heisley from Chicago, who notice there is something unique here in Milwaukee if give the proper attention.  Heisley former owner of the Memphis Grizzlies was willing to spend money while creating a winning atmosphere.  Just what this franchise needs!
I look at franchises like Memphis, Oklahoma City, or Indiana as the blue print on how to be successful in a "small market".

Skiles might be gone, but if the correct moves are made the future of the Milwaukee Bucks can be bright once again one win at a time.

DREAMS SPORTS NFL 2012 Awards

When was the last time the National Football League seen a season like this one? Were two players, Peyton Manning and Adrian Peterson, bounce back from neck surgeries and knee injury respectfully, and now are the front runners for MVP and Come Back Player of the Year? Never!  What about the battle of Rookie of the Year coming down to three quarterbacks who all have their teams in the playoffs.  Never! How about a head coach who had a battle with Leukemia, but his assistance coach stepped in and did an outstanding job and now the Indianapolis Colts are in the playoffs? Never!  So there shouldn't be surprises with this year NFL Awards.

MVP-Peyton Manning
Who really knew Manning would make the Denver Broncos legitimate contenders this year?  Everything was in question about Manning from his arm strength; durability, to his mentally stability.  After their lost start (2-3) I’m sure Broncos fans were looking for Tebow to return.  Well, like that Chris Brown song “Look at me now” Manning has the Broncos a mile high on top of the AFC Conference and prime for a strong playoff run.

Comeback Player Of The Year-Adrian Peterson
Ask any person who has ever injured their ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament) how difficult it is to bounce back to 100%.  Okay now ask a NFL runner-back to rush for 2,097 yards, missing the all-time record by nine yards, after having ACL surgery.  Adrian Peterson did just that.  Any other season he would have won MVP, without question, with those numbers.  Peterson season will never be forgotten.  The Minnesota Vikings are in the playoffs because of his amazing comeback this year.

Rookie Of The Year-Robert Griffin III (RG3)
No I didn’t vote for him solely on his last name, although it helps.  Griffin III as a rookie was fourth in quarterback passing rating. Lead the Washington Redskins on a number of fourth quarter comebacks.   His exciting play week in and week out had you tuning into the Redskins games once again.  His leadership skills are immeasurable.  Griffin III took on the rude and insensitive comments by ESPN Rob Parker calling him a ‘cornball brother’, too fans wanting Kirk Cousins to be the starter.  Through it all RG3 remained professional and a true winner!

Coach Of The Year-Bruce Arians
There could have been a few winners this year for Coach of The Year.  Leslie Frazier in Minnesota thanks to (Adrian) Peterson; Mike Shannahan in Washington for changing his system to allow RG3 the most opportunity for success; however I went with Bruce Arians of Indianapolis.  Arians keep one of the youngest teams together, lead by a rookie QB (Andrew) Luck, not to mention that Head Coach Chuck Pagano battle Leukemia.

Kevin Durant’s early exit

Wait, Kevin Durant of Oklahoma City Thunder was WHAT?!? He was ejected from an NBA game for the first time in his career.  Annoyed with the performance of his teammates and losing to Brooklyn Nets Durant was given two technical’s, which ejected him from the game. Check out the clip.
